Let's walk you through the process so that you can stay fashion ready throughout your pregnancy and have comfortable clothing that benefits both you and your child throughout these special months ahead.
When TO WEAR Maternity Dresses
As mentioned, you don't need to start wearing maternity dresses right away however before you know it your baby bump is going to expand and your regular clothing just won't cut it. In fact, it will become essential not just to your comfort but the well-being of yourself and your child that you start wearing clothing designed for maternity at some point.
Though this period can vary greatly from person to person as does the expansion of your bump, for most ladies it is usually around the four-to-six-month mark of your pregnancy when you will need to upgrade your wardrobe to something more suitable. Before then elasticated waists and loose clothing are your friend.
You should also take into account that these dresses and other maternity wear are not going to be used solely through your pregnancy as you will likely find yourself needing to still use them for a while after giving birth. Something that new mums might not realise.
When TO BUY Maternity Dresses
Since you do not know with absolute certainty whether you will need a maternity dress at the four-month, five-month, or six-month part of your pregnancy, it is better to err on the side of caution. Assuming that you could need these specialised clothes within 4 months of being pregnant and you may already be a month or so along, you should start looking for maternity dresses right away.
Couple this with the fact that you won't always feel up to shopping around, it is better to get at least the essential pieces together before you need them. This is not to say however that you should buy your entire wardrobe from day one. No, rather it is a good idea just to make sure that you do not find yourself without anything at all.
Plan ahead and pick out some maternity dresses of varying sizes that can accommodate you down the line as your bump grows so that when you reach that point and decide to buy more clothes, you are not left in discomfort and always have at least a few things that you can wear.
