Some people are difficult to buy for. That's the truth. You probably know someone like this, be it your partner, your mum, or your friend. Maybe they are quite wealthy and can buy most things they want. Or maybe they are approaching retirement age and have a lot of things they need. Or maybe they live in a flat and haven't got the space for 'things. Or they have retired and downsized so they don't have the space to collect possessions.
There are many reasons why you should look for something unusual, personal and unique and remember gifts don't have to be tangible too. Let's have a look at what you can buy for the person who has everything.
A babysitting service
A babysitting service is a unique gift for every parent out there. Perhaps you can buy a voucher for a local babysitting service. Another option (only if you like kids of course!) is to babysit yourself. Every parent needs a break and a babysitting service is a great gift for parents, to help them keep their sanity. Alternatively, if they don't have kids, what about a pet sitting service or dog walking service. Again there are agencies out there for your pets that provide this or if you like pets and have the experience, do it yourself.
An experience gift
There are many reasons why an experience gift is a perfect gift. It's perfect for those that don't want anything or have no need for any tangible gifts. There is also lots of research on why you should spend money on travel and experiences. Dr Thomas Gilovich a professor of psychology found that with an experience our satisfaction goes up over time but when we buy new items we quickly lose that excitement. So buy an experience gift - spitfire flights make unique gifts or race a sports car for the day. Other gifts for the less adventurous could be a cookery school experience, a trip to a spa or afternoon tea. You can even walk with alpacas. What's not to love?
A food and drink hamper
A donation to their favourite charity
If you know that the person you are buying for has a cause close to their heart then a donation to their favourite charity can be a great gift. Maybe they have lost someone to cancer, so a donation to Cancer Research UK would be appropriate, or they are a surfer, sailor or windsurfer so then a charity like the RNLI would be a worthy charity to donate to. I find that a donation to a charity is often the gift of choice if you are going to a wedding of someone older who has lived a bit of a life and doesn't want any presents.
A star named after them
Having a gift of a star named after you is a lovely gesture for someone who is interested is astronomy or is spiritual. Believe it or not, there are 10,000 stars you can see with the naked eye and only a fraction are named. This is the perfect gift for a birth or christening. It's also a heartfelt way of remembering a loved one. And although The International Astronomical Union (IAU) is the only official authority to name objects in space, so it's a novelty gift, when you buy a name a star gift experience, it comes with a certificate and further information about the star.
A pop up card
So when you've got that unique gift, you need a card to accompany it. Don't go tfor a boring card, go for something in three dimensions like a card from CardPop. This site is the place to go for pop up cards in the UK. They have everything from pop up bouquets to pop up cakes, to pop up guitars. A pop up card like this is a sure-fire way to make an impact, along with a unique gift.
So here are some ideas for what to buy the person who has everything. Do you have people in your life that you find difficult to buy for?
