How To Make Over Your Neglected Spare Room

Many homes have spare rooms that are used less as spare rooms and more as storage spaces for the junk that we no longer need. Well, now is the time to make over that neglected spare room and make it truly functional again. It certainly can be done; it just takes a little effort. Start by cleaning it out and turning it into a blank canvas. Then you can take the steps I’ll discuss below.

Start with the bed and build the room from there

When redesigning your spare room, you should always start with the bed because this is what’s most important. It’s a room that might be used by many different people, so it doesn't need to be personal to anyone, but it certainly needs to be comfortable allowing for a good night’s sleep.  So choose the right bed and bed linen and build your room decor around that.

Add some art or photography to the walls

Making the room feel a little more inviting is always a good idea if you’re looking to have guests stay. Having some landscape photos in place is a nice idea or some other kind of art or photography. It’ll make the space feel less plain and more homely. You can get some nice frames from Best4Frames and take time to select the photos that you feel work best in the space.

Select the right mirror

A mirror will make the space look a little bigger and lighter. Both of those things are important because spare bedrooms tend to be quite small and compact, so by putting a new mirror in place, you’ll be able to make sure that those dimensions are accentuated to the maximum degree. Choose a full-length mirror so your guests can use it as they get ready in the morning.

Keep decor relaxed and calm

It’s important that the design of the room is relatively relaxed and calming, just like you want the rest of your home to be. As I’ve already stated, it’s a place for rest, and relaxation and also of course sleep, so you don’t need to make design choices that are overwhelming and distracting. Keep it simple and choose colours that are calming, relaxing and fresh like blues, creams and beige.

Don’t fill space for the sake of it

You don’t have to feel like you need to fill up all the space for the sake of it. There’s nothing wrong with empty space in a spare room, you don't want it to feel cluttered and overwhelming. People need space, even if they’re only staying there for a short period of time, so don’t overcrowd the room.

Doing something new with your spare room could be exactly what it needs. When you do that, you can be sure that your room has a function and a purpose that it might not have had previously. So why not makeover your spare room to get the most out of your home's space, and invite some friend over to stay?
