5 Famous Films That Showcase Magnificent Jewellery

While movies are remembered for their story and the characters in it, what a lot of people don’t realize is the amount of effort and planning that goes into selecting smaller details such as location, wardrobe and accessories.

A few of the most famous movies today have showcased some of the most beautiful pieces of jewellery in cinema history. These movies are none other than Titanic, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Sex and The City 2, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Pretty Woman. All of these titles, including even the old but always great Breakfast at Tiffany’s, are available to view and stream on Chili. So check them out now.

Titanic

The legendary Titanic movie recounts the fictionalized account of the sinking of the RMS Titanic on which passengers Rose and Jack fell deeply in love only to be separated by the ship’s devastating sinking. The movie begins in 1996 as treasure hunter Brock Lovett and his team search the RMS Titanic for the Heart of the Ocean, a necklace with a rare diamond. The Heart of the Ocean necklace was in fact gifted to Rose by her fiancé Caledon Hockley who was aboard the Titanic as well. The diamond was believed to have been originally owned by Louis XVI and cut into a heart shape after the French Revolution.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

In this romantic comedy, Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive who bets he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Meanwhile, Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is assigned to write an article on “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” for her magazine. This movie stars one of the most expensive pieces of jewellery ever created for a movie, worth about $5 million. In addition to this 84 carat yellow Isadora necklace worn by Kate Hudson, an estimated $14 million worth of jewellery was lent for the film.

Sex and the City 2

A memorable movie for Sex and The City fans and for fashion lovers, Sex and The City 2 features a non-traditional engagement ring which caught the attention of every viewer. In the movie, Carrie is given a 5-carat black diamond ring set in 18k white gold and 80 pave diamonds by her soon to be fiancé Mr Big. Actress Sarah Jessica Parker worked personally with the designer, Italy Malkin, to put the finishing touches on this memorable ring.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

This 1961 American romantic comedy stars Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, an eccentric café society girl who is crazy about Tiffany’s. One of the most iconic looks of the entire movie is, in fact, her Tiffany & Co. diamond pearl necklace and matching diamond hair ornament paired with her signature little black Givenchy dress at the opening of the movie. This look launched a new wave of style that defined Hollywood in the early 1960s and is still emulated today.

Pretty Woman

Pretty Woman’s modern take on Cinderella stars Julia Roberts as a prostitute who falls in love with her client Edward (Richard Gere). One of the most memorable moments in the movie is when Edward pulls out a black necklace box, opens it and then proceeds to shut it closed as Roberts’ character is reaching for the diamond and ruby necklace inside. The necklace was custom designed for the movie by French jeweller Fred Joaillier and is worth an estimated 1.35 million, boasting 23 wonderful pear-cut rubies in the centre of diamond hearts.

While there are many movies known for their expensive jewellery and wardrobe, these are 5 of the most memorable movies which include statement pieces people still talk about today.
