Reggae Sumfest is the largest concert festival in Jamaica taking place each year in mid-July. This week-long festival is based in Montego Bay on Jamacia's north coast You can buy a ticket for the whole week, weekend or individual night, so there is something for every budget. The party kicks off every year on a Sunday, with a not to be missed Sumfest Beach Party at the Aquasol Theme Park. Many famous reggae artists have played here including Damien "Jr Gong" Marley, the son of Bob Marley, The Mighty Diamonds and Toots and the Maytals.
Trinidad and Tobago Carnival

Many Caribbean islands have carnivals but nowhere does it better than the Trinidad & Tobago carnival. The event is held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday every year and brings many thousands of people to the streets and many millions into the local economy. It originated during the period of slavery when the slaves, banned from attending their masters’ fancy balls and parties, would improvise by staging their own costumed event in their quarters. It's bright, colourful and a massive spectacular!

The Grenada Chocolate Fest celebrates the island’s organic and ethically produced cocoa and chocolate. This 9-day festival takes place in May every year and it an amazing festival for foodies or those that simply love chocolate. It educates and informs as you follow the journey of chocolate from tree to bar, and you have the chance to be a chocolate farmer for the day, to have lessons in making chocolate and to see where cocoa beans are grown.
Crop Over Barbados

Crop Over Barbados is a traditional harvest festival which began in Barbados, having had its early beginnings on the sugar cane plantations during slavery. The six-week festival celebrates all that is Bajan with dusk till dawn parties, arts and crafts markets, street food celebrations and more. Grand Kadooment is the climax of the festival where Masquerade Bands make their way to Spring Garden highway with revellers dressed in sequin and finery.
St Lucia Jazz Festival

The St Lucia Jazz Festival takes place annually and brings together international and local musicians. The festival is now known as the Soliel Summer Jazz Festival. It's a mix of free concerts as well as paying ones and it culminates in a major concert at the Pigeon Island National Landmark.

ReplyDeleteI have been to quite a few Caribbean islands, but not while there have been any festivals on. Love the sound of the Jazz festival especially (plus the chocolate festival, but that's through greed more than anything! :D)
