And it’s in the bedroom where things are getting interesting as everything from crushed velvet beds to richly coloured furniture shows us how things are going to be getting a lot more opulent throughout the year!
Velvet bed frames add a touch of opulence.
Whilst the stripped-back minimalist trend has been huge recently, it looks like we can start to use colour in more extravagant ways in our on-trend bedrooms.
Whether it’s a soothing mid blue, an enigmatic amethyst purple, or even a lively honey yellow, 2017 is a year where we’ll be getting out our paintbrushes and trying some unusual colour tones.
What’s interesting is that many of the biggest trends seem to be taking inspiration from the 1970s. Not only is there an ongoing terracotta craze but we’ll also be seeing plenty of woven baskets for storage, and even a few bold geometric prints on our bedroom walls as the 1970s makes a big comeback.
There are many choices for decorating your walls. One good choice is to flexibly use custom stickers according to the style of your bedroom. You can easily get a similar effect to a painting at a fraction of the price.
Going back to velvet, it's great to embrace some of those wonderfully 1970s fabrics in our interiors, and it’s a trend that Bedstar must have been aware of when they introduced these lovely crushed velvet beds that offer all of the glamour of the 1970s, but with a cool modern twist.
You should also never forget what you cover your windows in. Would you rather have blinds or shutters for your windows? When you style your window with Roman blinds or floor draped curtains, it adds that 1970s chic feel, while still evoking warmth and cosiness.
Other 1970s features that could be implemented into on-trend bedrooms include plenty of macrame. Something like a nice macrame plant hanger can add a touch of retro boho chic to your bedroom, and with even trendy places like Urban Outfitters getting in on the macrame trend, it’s a look that’s going to be everywhere this summer!

Velvet beds and macrame plant hangers are just some of the ways that our bedrooms could become more bohemian this year, as we can also look forward to other rich features like dark-coloured furniture in the form of cabinets and consoles. This is a welcome antidote to the slightly dated shabby chic look and is much better suited to the bedroom than some of the more modernist trends.
And with metallics like copper looking becoming a little passé, it gives us a chance to once again enjoy introducing plenty of lovely wooden touches into our bedroom. Whether this is a lovely dark green painted bedside table or even a richly detailed headboard for your bed, it’s all about making a big statement in your bedroom in 2017!
