Receiving a box of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat is always a treat, the packaging is always beautiful, the tissue paper and bags are gorgeous and when ordering online you even get a little gift card. It's these small touches that really make a present.
When choosing chocolates in my local shop in Cardiff, I find it so hard to decide. Do I buy one of the thick delicious slabs, encrusted with cookies, shortcake or brownies or do I go for a selection of little dessert chocolates known as the Patisserie chocolates? Decisions decisions!
Now for Mother's Day, the selection this year is immense. Some of my favourites are below.
The Mother's Day Sleekster £22.50
The Mother's Day H Box £12.50
The Mother's Day pocket selection £8
Today I am teaming up with Hotel Chocolat to give away a Mother's Day Sleekster worth £22.50. To enter I want to know your favourite mum moment. It can be a funny moment, it can be a sentimental moment, it can be a touching moment, it can be an embarrassing moment, it can be something that sums up your mum and all she does for you. One of those moments where you go, 'That's my mum!'. It can be a moment that you have had being a mum.
My proudest moment as a mum was when my son Jake was 16 and he was awarded a trophy in school for the highest score at art at GCSE. My mum moment was the moment that tears started streaming down my face when he went up on stage to collect his award. I was so so proud.
Me and Jake my darling boy
I was even prouder because when he was a little boy I was told by the teacher in nursery teacher that he would never attend mainstream education. The reason? He was very active, didn't talk a lot, and had some speech difficulties, he would shout out on the carpet and not put his hand up. He would get frustrated easily as he couldn't verbalise his thoughts. I immediately thought that was ridiculous! I knew he was a bright boy, after all, he could do a puzzle in no time, his art was amazing, he was showing his intelligence in so many other ways.
So I took him out of the nursery and put him in a playgroup that was much less structured. There he thrived and over time his speech and behaviour improved.
He went to a normal primary school and at 16 received 9 GCSES and IT qualifications and at 18 we were all over the moon when he was awarded 3 A levels with an A grade in art. He is now studying visual effects at university and wants to work on big Hollywood films. He makes me so proud, I'm actually welling up here!
Anyway, to enter this competition tell me your mum moment, as I said it can be funny, sentimental or anything in between, and remember go with your mum instincts, your child can do so much more than sometimes people give them credit for. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteMy Mum was widowed when she was young, and with a young family. Youngest had just recently started school. She had had a love of children, and concern for others from a young age :- I believe family philosophy, religion and / or culture was responsible for that philosophy. It made our lives more bearable, having happy social times whether it be at cinema, at home over a meal etc our friends and Mum's friends were always welcome. A true sense of Community. Would love that to be the way today, unfortunately too much change, closure of industries, businesses etc has meant some have moved due to seeking employment. Naturally we grow older and lose some people through death, but again that can be more bearable with family and friends nearby. Let's hope that people are once again valued for what they can give their family, friends and Community :- Genuine Caring, Support, a Sense of Security / Stability etc.
ReplyDeleteI can recall my Mum taking me to choose a Christmas present for myself ( from Mum) one Christmas Eve. We both love shopping. I chose a Beautiful doll sitting on a high backed chair, which was a musical jewellery box. I treasured the gift for years. I will treasure the memory forever.

ReplyDeleteWhen I am sad my Mum always knows the right thing to say. The saying Mum knows best is definitely right.
ReplyDeleteThere are many times when I've felt things are hopeless, then a Mum hug comes along and fixes everything. On the other hand, there was the time she made me cry laughing when she thought that: A) The Pied Piper was real and B) He ended the plague by taking all the rats out of London!
ReplyDeleteMy Mum taught me to ride a bike even though as child she never had one and can still to this day not ride a bike herself. I love how even though it was something she could not do herself she made sure as a child that I would not miss out on an important part of growing up :)
ReplyDeleteI find myself turning into my mum, saying things like 'Because I said so' but it came back to bite me when I said to my son, "I want you to tidy those toys up" and he replied, "I want doesn't get!" Boom.
ReplyDeleteMy Mum was so funny, shes started getting more familiar with the internet and gadgets so she asked for a fitbit for her birthday as she wants to be healthier. She said it will help her to not eat sweets and crisps and things and she started talking about it will be good to keep track of what she eats. I looked a bit puzzled and asked her what she meant, she thought that when you ate something the fitbit automatically detected it and counted the calories, I couldnt stop laughing.

ReplyDeleteBit random this one, but she worked in a boys school for years, and could tell a presons clothes size just by looking at them, shoes, collar size, trouser length etc, and she was never wrong. Veery useful for boyfriends presents etc

Well the other day my Mum was very busy with work and didn't have the time to cook her or my father a meal. As a new Mum myself and currently on maternity ;eave I offered to cook a lasagne for everybody for which she was extremely grateful. My Mum is a vegetarian and so I needed a single dish so that I could cook hers separately which I didn't have, so I took one from her kitchen cupboard. Later that day i took the lasagne's over to her house and she was in hysterics. When she was able to speak again she pointed out that I had actualy cooked her lasagne in her wall ornament...... not an oven dish. Oops :) Tasted lovely though haha

ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite moments with my mum is when she and my Nanna used to take me and my siblings to Bridlington for the day every Summer when we were little. We used to make a packed lunch, get on the train together, sit in the same corner on the beach, play, scream, build, splash, buy those small cans of pop from Woolworths and play in the play area for an hour while they went for a walk. It will always be one of my fondest memories.
ReplyDeleteMy mum is literally my best friend. We had years living 200 miles apart when I moved away to "find myself", Only to meet a violent and abusive man who made my life hell. ReplyDeleteMy MUMS soon to be 85, we have no role reversed, but it's a pleasure to look after her now as she looked after me many years ago :-)
ReplyDeleteThe first time she picked up my daughter from the school she got lost on the way home.
ReplyDeleteMum's not to steady on her pins nowadays and we move at a snails pace whilst out shopping but I remember those school sports days when I was always the one slowing us down in the three-legged races ;) ...so I've no problem her playing catch-up tied to me now. x
ReplyDeleteMy mum has time for everyone and puts everyone first
ReplyDeleteI lost my Mam a few years ago but I always remember how we would laugh together and have fun. I make sure to do this with my own daughter and we have such a special relationship I wouldn't change it for the world.
ReplyDeleteI am currently pregnant with my first child and so my stories of motherhood are just beginning. I think i'm about to appreciate my own mother a lot more. Especially as she was alone from finding out she was pregnant. I am lucky and have a supportive partner but she has no one and I honestly don't know how she coped by herself. She has always been an inspiration but more so now I understand her journey to bring me into the world and her commitment to raising me well when all the odds were against her.
ReplyDeleteKatrina.
Mom taught me to become a mother myself, her neverending support through my life has been inspirational, but the advice she gave me when the children were little has been a lifechanger x
ReplyDeletetouching story about mum and I? umm..I guess taking her to Japan for the first time was touching as she only went on two holidays out of England before that!
ReplyDeleteMy mum has been through so much in her life, including being left a single mother when my Dad died. She never complains, and is always there for anyone. She's never got any money because she will invariably give her last pound to someone who needs it. My dream is to be in a financial position to look after her for a change. I'm not ashamed to say that she is my heroine and the person I look up to the most in this world. No matter that I am an adult and a mother myself.

ReplyDeleteMy mum did her best with what she had, which wasn't a lot, and she always made sure we ate even if she didn't! Respect is due xx
ReplyDeleteBeing a new Mum to twin girls was both amazing and really hard work. Two lots of hungry crying babies, double the sleepless nights, double everything really. But I wouldn't change it for the world as they are my ICSI(Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) miracles and I love them more than word can say.
ReplyDeleteMy proudest mum moment was when my eldest daughter met her brand new baby sister for the first time. She was born with a cleft lip and palate and while she was and still is the most beautiful baby in the whole wide world, we were worried at not quite 5 it would be a bit scary for her big sister.
ReplyDeleteShe never blinked. She was the proudest girl in the whole wide world and I'll treasure the memories and those first photos forever.

ReplyDeleteMy Mums wisdom, guidance and generosity makes her the incredible person that she is today!

ReplyDeleteMy Mummy –
ReplyDeleteI came into the world, just last year,
With great joy and many a tear.
For eight months now, I have grown
With many a cry, and a little moan.
I have thrown my food in every direction.
While Mummy looks for any protection.
My collection of nappies is growing fast.
But will my hobby ever last?
I sleep at any time I choose.
When I awake, Mum’s having a snooze!
She has large bags under her eyes,
Looking after me, it’s no surprise!
My mummy has seen this every day,
Yet her love has never gone astray.
I wish I could repay her everlasting love.
Maybe ‘Chocolate' can answer the above?
Lots of Love

ReplyDeleteMy mum used to try and embarrass me by doing a funny walk when we walked down the street. She'd throw her legs up to do funny walks when people went by. I really was embarrassed at the time, but looking back it was very funny.
