Degustabox January

This month's box Degustabox is themed around healthy eating. This monthly box scheme always guarantees a selection of new and established products and you never know what you are going to get. A perfect surprise for the foodies out there. I am lucky to be sent a box for free every month and this is what I think of January's box.

Alfa One Rice Oil £2.00
The Alfa One Rice Bran Oil is high in antioxidants and is nutritionally well balanced. It is high is Gamma Oryzanol which has been shown to reduce the absorption of cholesterol, and is naturally occurring too. It has no cholesterol at all and is a very versatile oil for cooking.

Haywards Piccalilli £1.89
Piccalilli can divide a room, those that like it and those that do not like it. Unfortunately I am in the last group so I gave it to my father -in-law who loves the stuff. Perfect to have with meat and cheese and a selection of bread for a light lunch. A tangy mustardy pickle.

Finn Crisp Crispbread £1.20
Crispbreads can make a great alternative to bread. I did find these crispbreads a little dry on their own but I bet they would be so much nicer topped with cream cheese and sun dried tomatoes. A healthy choice made from wholegrains and rich in fibre and antioxidants.

Mornflake Top Porridge Oats £1.19 each
These pots are a great breakfast on the go, just add boiling water. What is interesting about the porridge pots is that they have a portion of Golden Syrup or Nutella included so you can add to taste. Oats are heart healthy and porridge makes a great filling breakfast so I would definitely buy these again. My son loved the Nutella porridge especially.

Kabuto Noodles £2.00
I loved these tasty noodles so much. Just add boiling water, stir and cover for three minutes, stir again and wait for a minute and they are ready to eat. Lots of authentic Asian ingredients such as ginger, chilli and coriander pack a flavour punch you can't ignore. Delicious.

Koyo Dairy Free £1.39
Koko Dairy Free Original is an alternative to cows milk made by pressed coconut milk. It has a slightly sharper taste than Soya milk but no overt coconut taste and in my opinion was perfect in tea and coffee. Often Soya milk can curdle in hot drinks but Koyo diary free doesn't so that was a plus point in my opinion. A great substitute if you are avoiding dairy.

Little Miracles £1.49 each
These non-carbonated drinks which are a blend of organic tea, juice and ginseng are sweetened with Agave and each bottle is less than 90 calories. With no artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners they make a good substitute to fizzy drinks and are super when you need a pick-me-up.

Sukrin Cake Mix £4.50
This cake mix by Sukrin is gluten and sugar free. T
he mix contains sesame flour and Fibrefine instead of wheat flour and it has 80% less carbohydrates than the average cake. I am looking forward to making a cake with this cake mix this week and hope it is as tasty as it looks. A great idea for those watching their weight.

In the box this month you either get Magners Light or Simplee Aloe, depending if you box is with alcohol or without.

Magners Light £1.00

This popular brand have now produced a lower calorie version of their cider. This fresh and fruity cider would be great served over ice on a Summer's Day. If you are watching your weight and like alcopops then I would recommend this.

Simplee Aloe £1.79
Simplee Aloe is an all natural drink Aloe Vera drink. This drink blended with grape juice has a fresh taste. They say Aloe Vera is a miracle substance and is great for those with stomach problems, soothing and healing. Perfect to pop into your lunch box or to take along to the gym. It also comes in a litre size to share with the family. Available from selected Sainsburys and Waitrose stores.

We also got a free gift in the box this month:-

Clipper Green Tea
Green tea is full of antioxidants and is great for you, and a brilliant substitute for a caffeine based hot drink. To be honest I am not a fan of green tea, yet I wish I was. My mother-in-law loves green tea and actually buys this make so she was very grateful when I gave these to her.

Some things were definite hits this month. I loved the porridge especially and the Kabuto noodles were really delicious. This box was aimed at a more niche market than usual, due to the time of the year it had a healthy eating slant. If you are adventurous and like trying new foods it is a good idea and it would also make a lovely gift

If you would like to subscribe a Degustabox subscription costs £12.99 per month, inclusive of delivery. The value of the items is usually a lot higher. If you would like a discount of £3 enter code RI781 into checkout when registering.

    1. This one was more specifically aimed at healthy eating and to be honest I do prefer the normal boxes even though I am trying to eat healthily.

  5. Degustabox looks really interesting this month, the Koko milk I use to make a really healthy low fat Thai curry, I posted it a couple of years back, a drop of coconut essence can be added but not essential and its got none of the calories or fat of coconut milk. Light Magners sounds fab for summer!

  9. I like the idea of the boxes but I worry I'd end up with a cupboard full of stuff that I wouldn't use. The girls would love those porridge oats though so I'm going to be on the lookout for them!

  13. My son drinks KOKO Milk as he is dairy free. I had to go on a dairy free diet for a short while too and was surprised to find it didn't have a strong coconut taste so was great for cereals too x

    1. Yes the Koko milk has no coconut flavour so it's great for making custard, rice pudding and having on cereals.
