This is my second Like Loathe Love, linking up from the lovely Bex at Futures. I will dip in and out of this linky as the year progresses and if I feel particularly strongly about a subject. All these posts are meant to be light hearted in nature :)
This week I am liking
Fetes - I live in a little seaside town and every May bank holiday we have a fete. This year it was held in the grounds on one of my local churches. Coconut shies, tombola stalls, and dog shows mix with charity stalls and cake stands. It actually sounds more exciting than it is, we did the fete in about twenty minutes and that includes a go at the coconut stall and a stop for cake, but it was enjoyable enough. When I was sitting in the little portacabin outside the church I did say to my husband I wonder if you can get wi-fi here, to which he replied "Why do you need wi-fi when you have a direct line to God?". This is why I love him, his funny sense of humour. Seriously though we should all revel in the innately British institution of a fete, whether it is a summer fete, church fete, school fete or Christmas fete. It's a fun way to raise money and who can say they haven't had their childhood enriched by hitting a wooden rat before it reaches the bottom of the pole and warm squash.
This week I am loathing
Warm seats - You know when you get to a cafe, it's busy and you notice a free seat? A sharp meander through the thong of people, quick before they beat you to it! Then, the realisation that the seat is warm, and the faint smell of body odour that permeates. You must know what I mean, surely I can't be alone in this loathing?
This week I am loving
Graham Norton - Well specifically Hugh Jackman on Graham Norton and the rest of the X Men cast. I admit it, I may not be a teenager but I do have a crush on Mr Jackman. It all started with Swordfish a few years ago, then Australia and even Real Steel. It's the masculinity, the cheeky smile and tall dark and handsome good looks. It also helps that he is a great actor. This episode of the show last week, where Hugh was joined by Michael Fassbender and James Macvoy was full of good humour and a real treat. Hugh, if you ever divorce your wife, you know where I am, just forget the little fact that I am married too that gets in the way!
How did I know Hugh Jackman would feature? I was only saying yesterday whilst watching X-Men how much you would be drooling over HJ this weekend! Great linky, I need to do mine!
ReplyDeleteI can't resist I am powerless to his charms...
DeleteAwh I'd love to go to a little fete and take a break from all the stresses of everyday life and just enjoy the day. I'm with you with the warm seats, it's something which haunts me from my school days :)

Fetes are such a British institution!
DeleteYou know summer is on it's way when you've done your first fete! (Could you get wi-fi though?? It's important.) And yuck, I'm sure a nation will join you in your loathing of warm seats. *shudders*
ReplyDeleteSorry about the seat thing lol.
DeleteI love our local fete - it's great!
ReplyDeleteFetes can be fun!
DeleteI watched Graham Norton on Iplayer this morning - there was much drooling into my keyboard! Mr Jackman to look at and Mr MacAvory to listen to...Hmmmmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteI think James Macavoy is a great actor I must admit and he has a lovely Scottish twang.
DeleteOh, yes, you can't beat a good fete, as you say such a wonderfully British thing :) Warm seats, yup, yuck! And, I would have to agree with you on Hugh Jackman!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you say that, do you think we really have good fetes in the UK though? They always seem a bit...lame lol.
DeleteOoh good taste in men.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of a good fete. The ones near us nowadays are a bit disappointing as they've gone a bit more upmarket - nice local foods and crafts, and none of the traditional games
I like to think I have good taste in men ;). I wish our fete was nice foods and crafts though!
DeleteI love fetes, we went to one yesterday, and Hugh Jackman is rather nice. I'm also with you on the warm seats but on buses...or worse, when said smelly person decides to sit next to you on a bus. It makes me wish I had my car back!
ReplyDeleteOh no the perils of not having a car, I forgot about that Anne!
