To Cruise Or Not to Cruise? - That Is The Question!

I have never been on a cruise, and to be honest I don't know why, considering I just love to travel. So I have been thinking about the benefits of a cruise.

To me, the chance to visit lots of destinations on one holiday would be highly appealing and very easy. I'd love a Mediterranean cruise. The thought of being in Crete one day, Turkey the next and then Italy the day after sounds very exciting. All those different cultures, places to see and new foods would make for a fabulous break.

For those that are social butterflies, you also get the chance to meet new people, especially with the organised activities that are on offer. There is also spa facilities, pools and even the chance to play golf on board ship. I don't think you will be bored!

It can be very convenient and organised to be a part of a cruise. Activities, excursions and meals are arranged, which is great for those that don't like the planning aspect of a holiday.

It can be quite cost-effective considering food is normally included and some or all of the activities, although you do have to budget for optional excursions and tips.

So I asked some friends what they thought of cruising, here are some of their replies.

I LOVE cruises! They give people like me with a crippling fear of flying, the chance to travel abroad in sheer luxury!. Hayley M

I can't stand boats & would hate the constraint of being stuck with the same people all the time. Lorriane C

I've been tempted for a while despite not liking boats very much as there seems to be so much to do onboard and then you get off and explore new places - what's not to like! Emma L G

I love waking up in a new place to explore every morning, the amazing buffets, and sitting on the balcony with a cocktail watching the sea and the sunsets! We've been on 3 different cruises and loved every one!

I hated my mini cruise mainly as had no windows and I had to get the Russian security to deal with some lager louts. Claire T

Probably the best food I ever tasted and the KIDS CLUBS are fab, you can leave kids there all day with qualified staff & we had to force the kids to have dinner with us. Steve A

I went on a Disney Cruise with my husband and kids and it was the most fabulous experience ever - amazing service and fabulous fun! Amanda G

Pure relaxation, can't wait to go on another, fantastic service and so much food. Sue W

I liked the convenience of travelling but having everything you need all in one place at the same time. And getting to visit so many places on one trip. Rachael Louise C

  4. I've done 2 Med cruises with my daughter and they were fantastic. As a single parent it can be quite lonely going on holiday with your kid(s) but on a cruise I met some fabulous people, didnt have to sit on my own for dinner with my child, there's always something to do if you want to but equally it's easy to just relax and do nothing, and the kids clubs were fantastic for my daughter and the whole environment was safe enough for her to not need me to be with her all the time. If I could afford to do it every year I would.

  10. I must admit I've always thought of cruising as an old people's holiday, but my younger brother works for Caribean Cruises in Australia and is always cruising. He reckons it's wonderful for families!

  11. I've never been on a cruise, my mum and dad as have my nanna and grandad. It's only recently I think that they have been aimed at families as well as the "older generation" as it always has been x

    1. Yes traditionally they were marketed at the older generation but the emphasis is changing now, and many cruises are aimed at families too.

  18. I always used to think that cruises were for oldies, but I have seen a couple of bloggers and friends going on them recently and I have to say I quite fancy the idea of one now! Getting to see so many different places, but not keen packing/unpacking has big appeal especially with a little one

    1. I don't think they are for the elderly any more. Disney do cruises for example.
