Grand Designs is an inspiring programme. and presenter Kevin Mccloud follows some of Britain's ambitious self-build projects. Have you ever thought of a self-build project? The benefits would be you could choose everything yourself from the ground up. Choose where to live, check, choose your piece of land - check, chose your own architectural design, check, choose a modern top of the range kitchen, check, choose a stylish bathroom, check and so on.
I guess it could be stressful on times, self-builds are notorious for going over budget, and problems are likely to occur but for your very own house designed to your specifications, some things are worth the stress.
First, you would need to look for land for sale, then get an architect on board to design your plans, then the fun starts when you have to pick your fixtures and fittings. Designing and building your house like this can be a very cost-effective way of getting a return on your investment, even if you want to live in it and not sell it on in the immediate future. You can even plan that beautiful garden with the rose bushes and birdhouse.
One day I'll get there, until then, I'm happy to live in my flat by the sea.
Have you ever thought of building your own house? If so where would you build it?

Now that is nice , so wish could move to the country side .x
ReplyDeleteMaybe one day you will.
DeleteIf I could choose the design for my dream home it would be one of those big american style houses with a wrap around porch and steps up to the front door that I could have fun decorating each season :)
ReplyDeleteThat sounds idyllic
DeleteOoo I dream of such things!
ReplyDeleteme too!
DeleteI like the idea of it, but don't think I'd like to actually do it.Oh and anyway I do love old houses that have retained their original features. Although a huge wall of glass overlooking the sea also sounds hugely appealing!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a modern house overlooking the sea :)
DeleteThis was like reading my own thoughts. We rent in the town centre and i dream every day of a little cottage. I read country living every month and watch all the programmes and wish it was me with the £500,000 budget!!!! ha x
ReplyDeleteYou sound like me Keri-Anne
DeleteI would definitely love to build our own house, and it would be at home in the UK, of course! :)
ReplyDeleteI thought you were going to say it would be somewhere warm :)
DeleteSo jealous, I'd love to live by the sea!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to live back in Winchester, it's the best city ever but I would also love to live on the Isle of Wight because it's so pretty.
Winchester is beautiful.
DeleteI grew up by the sea and one day would love a house overlooking it
ReplyDeleteThere is something calming about watching the sea.
DeleteOh, they have some sort of self builds in Greece, where we dream of having a holiday home some day, they sell you a house in a box, sort of. One day, just like you, we will have it...
ReplyDeleteThat sounds interesting! Good luck with that.
DeleteThat's funny, I live in a house in the countryside and I dream of living by the sea!
ReplyDeleteI don't really want to move to the countryside I am happy by the sea but I want a house not a flat.
DeleteNot a self-build but I do dream a lot of how I could make my house more suitable for me, changing the layout etc if only I had the money - that and listening to the radio are the things that get me through the housework!
ReplyDeleteWould you have any extension do you think?
DeleteI love watching property programmes too! Hope you get your dream home one day!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteI've always wanted a rambling three storey split level house ;) totally impractical but quirky and eccentric!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds really interesting.
DeleteI live in a very urban area and dream about living by the sea in a much more beautiful part of the country in a lovely cottage (not much chance of that with 4 kids though ;-)) xx
ReplyDeletegood luck in your dream :)
DeleteMy dream home, if ever I have money to build one, would be by the sea. How wonderful would it be to go to bed each night with the sound of the waves lulling me to sleep.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds Idyllic
DeleteOhhh go on do it. We just finished planning our dream house. The design process was so much fun, and now we have an interior designer coming on board to look at helping us choose the fixtures and fittings. It's a long, but fun process.
