The Secret of Aloe Vera

I have an interest in looking after my skin like most women my age, so when I saw Agata from the website Bark Time had an interest in the plant Aloe Vera I asked her to guest post on my blog. She was not paid for this post.

How to keep your skin radiant and well moisturised all year round

To answer this question we will take a look at the natural properties of plants.

We all know that plants can be used in everyday cosmetics. In this modern age of science and a far deeper understanding of chemical reactions we now know some plants can be used as a “secret weapon” while fighting the moisture battle as I will soon explain.

A very common problem amongst women is dry, grey, dull looking skin. On average we spend £100s every year trying the latest new creams, lotions and serums all advertised as the ultimate solution... Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t... such is life.

Keeping our skin well moisturised is very important and I have a beauty secret which can help with this task. I don’t have many beauty tips but this one I’ve tried myself and shared with a lot of my friends, who have had fantastic results, so I know for a fact that it works. So which plant is my “secret weapon”?

The answer is: Aloe Vera

This magnificent plant holds the secret to beautiful and moist skin. It will moisturise it, keep it hydrated for longer and make it look fresh and healthy. As an extra benefit it might get rid of any spots you have and ease any redness or over dry discomfort you might feel. There are two ways of using this “magic” plant – the easy way, which will take longer for the effect to accrue or a slightly harder one, but you will see the results within days.

First Method - The Simple Method

Purchase a good quality Aloe Juice, but instead of following instructions on the bottle, use it as a tonic water – at least twice a day. You can of course drink it as well, in order to get other benefits from this fabulous plant.

Second Method – The More Complicated Method

Buy yourself an Aloe plant. When choosing the plant, please make sure that your specimen has quite wide and large leaves, as they will hold the most juice. Pick a leaf, cut it at the angle close to the bottom of main plant. Split leaf in half and gather all the juice. As described above use it as a tonic water for your face, neck and bust line. If you have time you can always make a leaf mask, simply by placing open, freshly cut, still moist leaves on your face (use the leaves after you have gathered the juices from them). When using juice directly from the plan you should see an effect within 3 to 7 days, depending on how dull and dry your skin is.

I discovered all of this some time ago, when my friend had burns on her face. She was advised to use Aloe juice in order to help with pain and speed up the healing process… but after a few days we noticed that the juice did much more than just help with healing the burnt part, it made her skin much more moist, radiant and generally healthier looking.

With all of this now written down, please remember that all things are good in moderation. So do not splash aloe juice on your face all day long while forgetting about the other basics. In order to keep your skin looking younger and healthier for longer, please do not forget that you also have to keep your whole body well hydrated. Aloe grows fast, so once you buy a plant and care for it well, you will be able to use it for many years to come.

  1. i actually have an Aloe plant sat next to me right now. My dad bought it for me and I always think it is good for an emergency for burns and such. I had no idea you could use the juice for general skin care! Thank you for getting this written down and sharing Agata and thank you Mel for getting her to guest post!

  3. I love aloe. I have a lovely one in my bathroom, but it doesn't look as great as your one. I always use it on my skin and also on my dogs skin when he has an irritation.

  4. I have two Aloe plants on my kitchen window sill, they aren't quite as glorious looking as Agata's though I must say! I have always used this for burns, skin irritations and sunburn, but it has never occurred to me to use it as a part of a daily skincare routine. Will be definitely trying this as I am not happy with the way my skin looks on my face! Thanks for the post :D
